A girl’s prom is one of the most exciting nights of her life. The dress, the date, the flowers, the music. The entire night is magical and often captured in countless photos and showcased on social media and even in school yearbooks.

So what are some of the things every girl needs to make her night one to remember? Let’s take a look!

The Dress

Perhaps the most important component of any prom - the dress. The styles are changing every year but options are always endless. Choosing a prom dress is a time for a young girl to explore her creativity and fashion sense while feeling like a true princess. But, it can also be something parents dread when they see the price tag.

When choosing your dress, try to remember that you’ll likely only wear it this one time. Even if you attend more than one prom in your high school career, it’s unlikely that you’ll wear the same dress twice. Sure, if you have a wealthy family member who’s getting married in a fancy venue, you might wear the dress again. But for most of us, prom dresses are worn and seen for one night only and then remain hung in our closet, draped in the dry cleaner’s plastic.

So don’t break the bank on this purchase. Prom dresses can cost anywhere from $100 to over $500. Every girl should feel beautiful on her prom day, but try to keep a budget in mind before shopping.

The Hair and Make-Up

Who doesn’t love someone doting on them - doing their hair and make-up? Preparing for your prom is the perfect time to indulge in a little extra TLC when it comes to your appearance. A lot of department stores will offer make-up trials and even appointments at reasonable prices. If you can, find a salon that offers updos and make-up application in one. A lot of salons offer prom specials leading up to the big day.

But it’s also important to keep in mind that most prom goers are 17 years old and younger. Choose makeup that is flattering but not too overpowering. You don’t want to look overly made up and far beyond your years. Find someone who is skilled in doing makeup for young girls. Better yet, get together with a friend and do each other’s hair and makeup. You’ll save a pretty penny this way.

The Entrance

This can mean two things - your entrance into the room when you show everyone your finished look and your entrance to the prom venue. If you want to make a big impact on your date and family, have everyone waiting in one room of the house before you enter. This works beautifully if you have a long staircase to come down, but even if you don’t, having everyone lay eyes on you for the first time together, will absolutely add the “wow” factor.

When it comes to arriving at your prom, you’ll want to do it in style. Get together with friends and rent a limo. With several couples pitching in for the cost, it will be extremely reasonable. The ride alone will be a good time and everyone will be waiting, holding their breath as the gorgeous stretch limo pulls up. And then you can all step out in style!

The Details

Some other things to consider when planning for prom is your jewelry, flowers, shoes, and nails. You can buy reasonably priced costume jewelry almost anywhere. A good tip to keep in mind is that if your dress is on the plain side, liven it up with some flashy jewelry choices like bold earrings and a shiny necklace. If your dress is already covered in “bling”, choose some simple pieces that compliment the design without taking away from it.

Don’t forget, you’ll likely be wearing a corsage on your wrist so you may not need a bracelet. Tell your date or your friends what colors you’re wearing so they can choose a corsage that matches your dress perfectly. Buy shoes that work well for the length of your dress but are also comfortable! Not only will you be walking too and from the venue and standing for pictures, but you’ll be dancing the night away and don’t want your feet to hurt. Add another element to your style and get a manicure. You don’t need to get tips, even a simple polish will work just fine.

Make it a Night to Remember

Your prom will be a magical and memorable night. Try not to overthink your style choices, your date, or your appearance. Choose things that make you feel beautiful and comfortable. And remember to have fun!
